In this video, I'll take you through my process for developing a song idea, focusing on experimentation and following my ears. I'll pick up where I left off on a track I've already started working on, and show you how I continue to build on the ideas I've established so far. Ask yourself: What do you crave next - a paraphrase of Paul Meany of the band Mutemath. I'll share how I use Ableton Live to try out different sounds, rhythms, and textures, and how I let my instincts guide me in deciding what to add or change next. We'll cover topics like: • Working with existing ideas and finding ways to expand on them • Experimenting with different sounds and instruments to add depth and interest • Building on your ideas and letting the song evolve organically • Trusting your instincts and making decisions based on what sounds good to you My goal is to show you how to stay creative and inspired in the midst of a project, and how to keep pushing your ideas forwarrd. I'll share my own thought process and decision-making, and hopefully, you'll find some practical tips and inspiration to apply to your own music-making process!

In this video I show you how I take a simple sample from splice.com and warp and change it into something much more interesting! creativity takes center stage with sound designing often times, and this was no exception. I use slice to midi to capture the sound after it is altered, which allows the new tone to be played in as a new texture, I'm using Ableton Live 12, but you could likely achieve something similar in other DAWs as well... also on hardware or software samplers too. I was testing this with KOALA Sampler which I love, and this method is great there too. Hope this inspires you to let your creativity flow!

In this video I want to share with you a creative process that's been a total game-changer for me in the studio - writing song sketches in Ableton Live... WITHOUT a plan.
For me, a sketch is not a fully fleshed out song, but more of a structural and creative idea that I can build upon later. It's a way of capturing a spark of inspiration and running with it, without getting too caught up in the details. I've found that writing sketches is an amazing way to keep my creative juices flowing, and it's helped me to develop a more spontaneous and intuitive approach to music-making.
It's a low-pressure way of working - I'm not trying to create a perfect, polished track, I'm just focusing on getting the idea down. Of course, things don't always go to plan. Sometimes I'll start working on a sketch and it'll just not be feeling right kinda wonky or something. But that's okay - it's all part of the process!
Some of my best work has come from those moments when I'm not trying to be perfect. When I'm just messing around and seeing where things go. There's something about embracing the unknown and letting go of expectations that can be really liberating. It's like my mind is free to wander and explore new ideas, without the weight of trying to create something 'great'. which really... isn't it everything we make somewhat "great?" I mean, it's an idea that didn't exist... then you acted... then it exists! pretty great!
Feeling stuck or just want to shake up your creative routine, I highly recommend giving song sketches a try. Grab your DAW, start with a blank slate, and just see where the music takes you. You never know what you might come up with.

We'll look at how to create a custom monitoring setup using the Model 12's versatile outputs with just a single knob. But here's the twist: I also show you how to use a surprisingly unconventional tool - a cheap, midrange-focused speaker - to identify areas for improvement and make informed decisions about your mix. By comparing your mixes on this "bad" speaker, you'll be able to pinpoint issues with your mix's balance and clarity, and make targeted adjustments to create a polished, professional-sounding final product.
